Six de ces Jeunes citoyens ont obtenu le plus de votes en ligne à l’échelle pancanadienne et ont été choisis par un jury en vue des Prix de 2012. Les six Jeunes citoyens ont assisté à la remise des Prix d’histoire du Gouverneur général l'automne dernier qui s'est déroulée à Rideau Hall le 10 décembre. Les vidéos gagnants ont été présentés le 9 décembre lors du Forum Histoire Canada, à Ottawa.

Mon projet porte sur la Guerre de 1812. J'examine les causes ainsi que deux des principaux moments de la première partie de la guerre. Pour conclure, je regarde les impacts de la guerre et m’intéresse à une de ses figures marquantes.

La cartographie
Mon projet fera connaître un élément qui peut paraître banal, mais qui est en fait essentiel au développement d'un pays ou d'une région: la cartographie. À travers mon vidéo, je parlerai de la reproduction que j'ai faite d'une carte des îles St-Pierre et Miquelon, du point de vue d'un historien quant à la cartographie, du grand cartographe Jacques Cartier et de l'importance générale de toutes les cartes.

Mon projet porte sur Silver Fox Island. Il présente la région et la force de caractère des premiers habitants qui ont lutté pour survivre sur cette petite île de la baie de Bonavista à Terre-Neuve. Ces colons dépendaient de la terre, de la mer et de l'air pour vivre. Après une décision du gouvernement, ils ont été déracinés et forcés à déménager vers les grands centres dans l'espoir d'une vie meilleure. Ces gens sont de ma famille!
